Trails Planning--neighborhood meetings

 

Identify trails & define priorities on an individual neighborhood basis to create a master trails plan.

We held 3 meetings for the Mosquito Gulch area (Feb. 19, March 19, Apr. 30)  We identified areas to work on and completed one day of trail work on the issues identified (June 20).

 

Historical & trail signage development and installation.

 

 

Design and install signage to identify key historic & cultural sites and trails to educate users and reduce vandalism and/or conflicts.

Trail project on Mt. Bross July 18, 19. MRHI recruited local volunteers, assisted in securing camping area.
On June 1, 2009 in conjunction with partners, MRHI announced the conditional opening of the trail to Lincoln and Democrat.

 

CSU NRI Study

 

In cooperation with CSU, define economic opportunities related to recreational resources within South Park & Leadville areas.

Two meetings were held in 2009--one in Alma and one in Leadville.
Dr. Kreske has written two reports detailing her findings.  One finding was that regardless of economics, people will continue to climb the 14ers.

Orphan Boy Mine Environmental Hazards review (added as an opportunistic activity)

 

Review potential seepage areas from former mining site on public lands

Forest service land surrounding the Orphan Boy Mine was visited with a representative from CUSP.  Seepage areas downstream from the mine on forest service land was noted and plans made for more in-depth followup in 2010.

MRHI hosted the CFI Peak Stewards training, June 13, 14
Peak Stewards recorded 30 volunteer days, 16 individuals, and 2,381 verbal contacts at Lincoln, Democrat and Bross trailhead.
